Birmingham defender Martin Jiranek admits he had gone stale at Spartak Moscow and needed a fresh start in the Premier League.
The 31-year-old Czech has signed a one-year deal at St Andrew's after sifting through a host of offers from across Europe as he looks to make an impact in "probably the best league in the world".
Jiranek told the Birmingham Mail: "I had many offers. Three from teams in Spain, one from Germany, one from Russia but it was my dream to test myself in the Premier League.
"I knew Birmingham finished ninth in the league last season, which is a great result. I was quite happy to join that kind of team.
"It's a new challenge for me."
