Allardyce wary of January 'nightmare'
Blackburn Rovers, 12:14, December 29, 2008 ,
Sam Allardyce has warned nervous Blackburn fans of a "nightmare" January in which Roque Santa Cruz could leave Ewood Park.
Allardyce has vowed to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the highly-rated Paraguay international and fellow frontman Benni McCarthy, but accepts that a huge offer for one of his star men could sway his Ewood bosses.
Allardyce has also revealed he will try to add to his squad next month but feels that too will prove difficult because clubs will want to keep hold of their best players.
"For all managers, the January window is a nightmare," said Allardyce.
"We will try to add to the squad. The problem is we need to find someone who can have an almost immediate impact.
"There is a huge amount of expectation around most clubs at this time with rumours of this player coming or that one going. Once the speculation has gone from one player, it just moves on to someone else.
"If someone comes in for one of our players we will try to resist them for as long as we possibly can."
