Big Sam secures new winger

Blackburn Rovers, 09:51, June 2, 2009

South African international winger Elrio Van Heerden will join Blackburn on July 1 after agreeing a two-year deal at Ewood Park.

The 25-year-old, who can play on either flank, will become a free agent at the end of this month after spending two and half seasons with Belgian side Club Brugge.
Van Heerden has won 25 international caps, scoring three goals, and started his club career at Danish outfit FC Copenhagen before moving to Belgium in 2006.
The winger endured an injury plagued 2008, when he was forced to sit on the sidelines for 10 months due to a serious knee injury, but is now back to full fitness.
Blackburn fans will be able to get a first look of Van Heerden this month, after the wideman was selected in the South African squad for the upcoming Confederations Cup.
