Boss fears target will walk away
Blackburn Rovers, 13:18, June 18, 2010 ,
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has revealed the club's continued search for a striker could force transfer target Guti to look elsewhere.
The 32-year-old Real Madrid midfielder has been persuaded to make the move to East Lancashire by former Real defender Michel Salgado, who made the same move last season.
Allardyce and Guti's representatives have already held talks over a possible move earlier this summer but the Rovers boss has admitted a new striker is a priority, meaning any such move will have to wait.
That could lead to Rovers missing out on the Spaniard altogether, with Turkish giants Galatasaray among a number of clubs interested in acquiring his services.
Allardyce said: "Guti would be a player we would like to sign there is no doubt about that.
"It has been fronted by Michel Salgado and it has been outstanding that a player like that would like to come to Blackburn.
"But a player in his position is not the priority at the moment.
"One of the stumbling blocks for me is the priority is a frontman and I am not so sure Mr Guti could wait for us to find a front man and see where we go from there.
"But that is the key thing for us to sign a front man and then look elsewhere after that."
