Duo leave Rovers

Blackburn Rovers, 15:55, December 23, 2008

Sam Allardyce has told Robbie Fowler he will not be getting a new deal at Blackburn, while Nigel Winterburn has also left.

Fowler was handed a three-year deal under former boss Paul Ince but Allardyce has told the veteran striker he is surplus to requirements and is free to find another club.

Meanwhile, defensive coach Winterburn has also been shown the door after Allardyce, a central defender in his days as a player, told him he will be looking after that area.

"I spoke to Nigel today to say, from my point of view in terms of specialist coaching defensively-wise, I think I can look after that basic area now," said Allardyce.
