Rovers chief hits double transfer snag
Blackburn's hopes of signing Schalke's Jermaine Jones and Manchester United star Mame Biram Diouf have been handed a huge blow.
Rovers boss Steve Kean snapped up United States international midfielder, Jones, on a loan deal until the end of the season from the German Bundesliga side in January after he fell out with then coach Felix Magath. However, he revealed that he wanted to take him to Ewood Park on a permanent basis but they could not agree a fixed price with Schalke officials.
But, with Magath being sacked by Schalke earlier this month, Kean's hopes of keeping the 29-year-old have been hit by the news that new coach Rolf Rangnick considers Jones as part of his long-term plans.
"In recent years I found Jones always good in the Bundesliga until his injury break," said Rangnick.
Schalke's general manager Horst Heldt added: "Of course, Jermaine returns in the summer to us."
Meanwhile, Diouf, who like Jones has started the past two games for Rovers, is also set to be called back to United by their boss Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of his season-long loan which former boss Sam Allardyce struck last August.
"Mame Diouf has done well at Blackburn and he'll come back in," said Ferguson.
