Rovers target shock swoop
Blackburn Rovers, 14:19, June 27, 2009 ,
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce says he is keen to sign Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid and is planning a move for the striker.
Allardyce is looking to draft in a replacement for Roque Santa Cruz as soon as possible and is ready to turn to van Nistelrooy, as the Dutchman's position at Real looks insecure following the arrival of several big signings and a new manager.
The Rovers boss has pulled off some big signings in the past when he was in charge at Bolton and he hopes to work his magic again with the former Manchester United star.
"Who'd have thought Bolton would get Nicolas Anelka? Nobody did. But I went out and did it," Allardyce said. "It would be nice to do it with a Van Nistelrooy.
"The sort of salary he would be on at Real Madrid may be beyond us. But maybe he wants to come and play in England again and take less of a salary - then we'd be interested.
"It would be a major coup if I could pull it off."
