Sam backs striker to shine

Blackburn Rovers, 09:13, August 25, 2009 ,

Nikola Kalinic is set to start for Blackburn against Gillingham tonight and boss Sam Allardyce is backing him to come good.

The Croatian was thrown into action ahead of schedule against Sunderland at the weekend following an injury to Franco Di Santo and went on to miss three good chances.
However Allardyce was just delighted to see him get in good positions and will give him another chance to shine in the Carling Cup clash as both Di Santo and Benni McCarthy are out injured.
"Sadly for him and us he mis-timed his strike on all three occasions but he got in there and if he continues to get in there, from what I have seen, there is no doubt that those chances will turn into goals," Allardyce revealed.
"I hope it doesn't worry him too much. He's in the squad because of Benni and Franco's injuries so we'll be looking to give him some minutes there."
Elsewhere Jason Brown is set to take his place between the sticks against his former club as current number one Paul Robinson will be rested.
