Alvaro Recoba will not be joining Blackburn soon but a deal for Robbie Fowler is still alive, chairman John Williams has confirmed.
Uruguay striker Recoba is a free agent following his release from Internazionale but Ewood supremo Williams has countered speculation that 'El Chino' is already a target for manager Paul Ince in the January transfer window.
"We are looking at a number of players," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph. "We start the process now ready for January, but there is nothing imminent."
Williams has also reiterated that Rovers are locked in talks with former Liverpool striker and fellow free agent Fowler, who joined the club initially for a trial.
The deal looked dead when it was reported that the 33-year-old had tried to return to his last club, Cardiff City, where he rejected a new deal at the end of an injury-plagued season.
"He can be signed outside the window and it's something we are looking at," said Williams. "We are edging to a solution, it's just finding the correct deal, but discussions are ongoing."
