Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks has revealed he hired a personal trainer to help him back to full fitness after an injury-blighted campaign last term.
The Seasiders' bright start to their first Premier League season began to falter after Gilks suffered a serious knee injury in the goalless draw at West Ham in November. He was reduced to the sidelines for several months and then looked set to be on his way out of Bloomfield Road earlier this summer as a free agent, but he recently signed a new contract and is now approaching peak fitness."I hired a personal trainer on my comeback from injury last season and I've been working with him over the summer for four weeks out of the six I had off," he said."I've come back in real good shape, I've lost a bit of weight and I'm a bit more toned. Hopefully that will start showing when we start playing the pre-season games and at the start of the season."My knee feels great, it's fine. It was a matter of building up the muscle around it last season and that's what I've been continuing to do over the summer."
