The former Wolves defender has been wearing the armband since the start of the season after impressing against Norwich and Sheffield United.
Grayson also confirmed that Shaun Baker will take over as vice-captain whilst also being the club captain.
"Rob Edwards will be captain for the rest of the season now when he plays and Shaun will be the vice-captain and club captain," Grayson told the clubs official website.
"It wasn't an easy decision but it was a decision that, when I signed Rob Edwards, that I thought he could fulfil that role anyway."
