Barrow boss Dave Bayliss says the club will from now on only give players one-year deals to ensure they perform at their best.

The Bluebirds have previously handed players long-term contracts as they've looked to build a side capable of challenging for promotion to the Football League. However, this has not come without its disappointments, most notably the signing of defender Andy Nicholas who, despite arriving with a big reputation, has failed to secure a regular first-team place at Holker Street. Bayliss says he's learnt his lesson and from now on will only give players single season deals. "Andy Nicholas was probably one of the best signings I've made - in a perverse kind of way," he said. "He lacked drive and never knocked on my door to ask why he was not playing. "It's made us realise that as a club we can't do deals like that anymore."
