Lincoln City are preparing for a cash windfall after Bristol Rovers admitted Mustapha Carayol is close to signing for Middlesbrough.
The Imps sold Carayol to Rovers for an undisclosed fee last summer and have a 20 per cent sell-on clause for the Gambian winger, who is expected to join Middlesbrough for a fee of around £500k.
This means Lincoln could receive as much as £100k as part of the deal, a fee which would be welcomed by the Blue Square Bet Premier club ahead of the new season.
Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGee last month revealed he had a set asking price for the former Torquay man and this appears to have been met by Tony Mowbray's side, with the Scot admitting to BBC Radio Bristol: "We think we are very close to a deal, although it's not done yet."
Carayol played 30 times for the Pirates in his first season with the club, scoring four goals.
