Matt Mills scored his first goal for Bolton as they bounced back from two consecutive defeats to beat Watford 2-1 at the Reebok Stadium.

The former Reading and Leicester defender struck early on, and Bolton captain Kevin Davies hit a second just before the break to give the home side some breathing space. Watford fought back in the second half and Lloyd Doyley's cross-cum-shot provided a tense finish for both sides. Bolton went close after only two minutes but Manuel Almunia made a great save from Marcos Alonso's header and the ball was cleared off the line. But only a minute later the Trotters were ahead, Chris Eagles' corner being well met by Mills who netted despite Almunia getting a hand to the effort. Davies doubled the lead before Watford hit back after the break, although the skipper should have made sure of the points with 12 minutes to go when a straightforward header was directed straight at Almunia.
