Cahill worthy of Three Lions call - Megson

Gary Megson feels England coach Fabio Capello made a mistake by failing to call up Bolton defender Gary Cahill to face Germany.

The Trotters chief was shocked when the Italian tactician opted to give untried 20-year-old Chelsea stopper Michael Mancienne a chance to feature in his injury-ravaged squad for the trip to face Germany in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, despite the fact he has never played in the Premier League.

Megson felt a player like Cahill, who has played over 50 top-flight matches and has three Under-21 caps to his name, should have been given an opportunity in the friendly international.

He told the Bolton News: "All Gary can do is just keep plugging away.

"We all have our own opinions. We see Gary week in, week out and think he's a top class player."
