Trotters set for speedy deals
Bolton Wanderers, 11:27, January 6, 2009 ,
Injury and suspension problems to key players will see Gary Megson act quickly in his efforts to bolster his Bolton squad this month.
The Trotters boss has admitted that he wants to bring in several new faces while the January window is open for business, but he could be forced to work faster to tie up deals for his top targets as problems within his current crop of players mount up.
Skipper Kevin Nolan faces a two-match suspension after collecting his tenth booking of the season in Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Sunderland. Therefore he will miss this weekend's trip to Arsenal and the following match with Manchester United, while full-back Gretar Steinsson is also banned for the Gunners clash after picking up a sixth yellow card of the term at the Stadium of Light.
Add to that defender Gary Cahill's absence due to a hip injury and Megson only has 18 outfield players to call upon at this moment in time.
Therefore he is looking to strike while the iron is hot and admitted that he is close to bringing in one new face, while an approach has been made for a second player.
"It is difficult having plans because it changes from day to day," he said.
"Sometimes you have an idea of doing something and the team that has that player doesn't want to do it.
"Things change quickly but when that opportunity comes to do something that you think will strengthen your football club I'm pleased to say we are all singing from the same hymn sheet that we want to do that."
