Trotters want Carling success
Bolton Wanderers, 09:40, August 25, 2009 ,
Greitar Steinsson is set to return for Bolton against Tranmere tonight but Gary Megson will not make wholesale changes.
The Trotters travel to Prenton Park looking for their first win of the season and even though it is the Carling Cup, Megson does not have the luxury of fielding a completely different team.
Steinsson is expected to come in at right-back, while Jlloyd Samuel and Andy O'Brien could also come in to a new look back four but the changes will be limited.
"We have targeted cups each year," he said. "A lot of the clubs in the Premiership can pick one team and then pick another for the cup games and rest players and still get decent results.
"Our squad has not been strong enough to do that. We've tried doing that but the emphasis has always been on Premiership points and it always has to remain like that but we want to do as well as we possibly can in the cup.
"But it's not a Sunday league or under-13s game where you try to give everyone a game - we need to try and go through."
