City trial for Kaizer Chiefs ace
Bristol City, 19:40, January 15, 2009 ,
Kaizer Chiefs defender Jonathan Quartey has been handed a trial by Bristol City in a bid to earn a contract at Ashton Gate.
According to Chiefs' boss Bobby Motaung, the 20-year-old has earned a week on trial with the Robins and is aiming to impress boss Gary Johnson and claim a permanent move from South Africa.
"Jonathan left the country last night (Wednesday) for a seven-day trial with Bristol City. The club is looking for two defenders and they approached us about the player," Motaung told the Chiefs' official website.
The Ghanaian is highly-rated and has been watched by several top sides from across Europe but City have stole a march on others hoping to sign him by offering him the trial.
"It is not our policy to stand in the player's way when an overseas opportunity comes up. Jonathan has shown a lot of potential since joining the team last season and we wish him all the best during the trial," Motaung added.
Johnson is looking at several other, as yet unnamed, trialists this week as he looks to improve his squad on the cheap in the transfer window.
