Defender set for Robins deal

Bristol City, 11:29, January 26, 2009 ,

Former Scunthorpe defender Izzy Iriekpen is set to join Bristol City after the player's proposed switch to Hamilton collapsed.

The former Irons skipper left his former club earlier this month by mutual consent, after a disagreement with manager Nigel Adkins following a home 4-4 draw against Northampton.
The defender was widely criticised by home supporters during the match, as the Irons were 3-0 up at one point.
According to Hamilton boss Billy Reid, Iriekpen had agreed a contract at the Scottish Premier League side, but then decided against a move across the border at the last minute.
"I got a word 24 hours ago, his agent did not know anything about it and his agent only heard at 11 o'clock last night," he told Setanta.
"He went behind his back as well and I think he's going to sign for Bristol City."
