Johnson delighted with Elliott outcome
Bristol City, 16:01, June 19, 2009 ,
Bristol City boss Gary Johnson says he never had any doubts Marvin Elliott would stay after he signed a new three-year contract.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer with Fulham said to be leading the race for his signature but he has now put an end to the speculation by penning a new deal that should keep him at Ashton Gate until 2012.
Johnson insisted he always thought the fans' favourite would stay and he was delighted with the news.
"Marvin's seen all the speculation but nothing's come to us officially. There was never a question of him not signing the contract," he told the club's official website.
"Credit should go to him and to the club. I'm delighted he's signed a new deal with us."
Elliott was equally pleased with the new deal and is now looking forward to the new season.
He said: "I've signed the contract and I'm happy it's all sorted," he highlighted. At the moment I'm concentrating on getting myself as fit as possible so that I'm up and running for July 1."
