Robins' fresh focus reaps rewards

Bristol City, 18:55, December 30, 2008 ,

Boss Gary Johnson has put City's back-to-back Christmas victories down to changing the team's pre-match routines.

Johnson felt his players needed fresh ideas and saw them respond in emphatic fashion, winning 4-2 at Watford on Boxing Day before beating Crystal Palace 1-0 at Ashton Gate on Sunday.
He said: "Things that had worked well for us and stood us in good stead all through last season weren't working for us this time round. Even though those methods had worked in the past, we couldn't just keep going down the same road and losing games.
"We had to try new things and change it because we were stuck in a rut and sliding down the league. We had to change the player's train of thought and that is what we've done in the last week or so.
"We changed training to get them thinking about something different and we changed the way they warm-up before matches to freshen things up and make the players think it is something new.
"We are hoping it will continue to give the lads new focus and help rekindle their energy and spirits."
