Robins handed striker boost
Bristol City, 14:19, December 29, 2008 ,
Southampton have agreed to let striker Stern John stay with Championship rivals Bristol City until the end of the season.
The Trinidad & Tobago forward has no future at St Mary's and City boss Gary Johnson was happy to take the 32-year-old, who has scored twice in 12 appearances for the Robins since moving to Ashton Gate in late October.
"We had a gentleman's agreement with Southampton that if we took him on loan until January we would keep him until the end of the season," Johnson told his club's official website.
"Southampton have told him they won't be offering him a new contract at the end of the campaign and we needed that experienced Championship goalscorer in our squad.
"We'll see come May how much he's able to give us. He's good in the dressing room and although you won't see him rushing around on the pitch, he's a very clever player who does a lot of work for the team."
