Striker blow hits Johnson cash plans
Bristol City, 20:34, December 3, 2008 ,
City's chances of offloading Steve Brooker to Doncaster Rovers have been hit by a new injury which could sideline him until February.
Brooker's proposed transfer to the Keepmoat Stadium is in the balance after he suffered a torn calf muscle in training.
The 27-year-old striker joined the Yorkshire club on loan for a month with a view to a permanent move and made a stunning bow by scoring with his first touch in the 1-1 draw with Watford on Saturday.
But he now faces at least four weeks on the sidelines and, although Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll and City manager Gary Johnson today refused to call time on the deal, Brooker's chances of joining Doncaster on a permanent basis before the January transfer window closes have been dealt a blow.
Johnson said: "It's obviously disappointing for everyone concerned - for us, for Doncaster and for Steve Brooker himself.
"We are in discussions with Doncaster to find the best way forward."
A deal could be resurrected before the end of January if Brooker recovers within a month and then proves his fitness quickly.
City are keen to cash in on a player who is out of contract at the end of the season and who no longer features in Johnson's first team plans.
