Schalke are closing in on a deal to sign former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta, according to reports in Germany.
The Switzerland international has been a free agent since his contract at BayArena expired last month and has decided to accept an offer from Schalke, German newspaper Kicker reports.
The 27-year-old has already passed a medical and is set to sign a three-year deal with the Miners, who have been searching for a replacement for Raul.
Schalke boss Huub Stevens also tried to sign Eljero Elia and Salomon Kalou, but was unable to persuade the duo to make the move to Germany.
Barnetta scored 25 goals in 187 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.
