Barnetta to end Bayer spell

Tranquillo Barnetta is set to leave Bayer Leverkusen after eight years with the German club when his contract expires next month.

The 27-year-old Switzerland international midfielder, who returned from a long-term knee injury in the latter part of this past Bundesliga campaign, has turned down the club's offer of a new contract and will leave the BayArena at the end of June.
"Tranquillo has turned down our offer and he will leave us on June 30," Bayer general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser said.
"This is very regrettable because we wanted to extend his contract, but we could not reach an agreement financially."
