Beckenbauer blast Robben miss
Franz Beckenbauer has blasted Arjen Robben for missing the penalty that saw Bayern lose to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
Dortmund have taken a giant step towards winning the Bundesliga title after their 1-0 victory but Roben had chance to give the Bavarians a point. But he missed from 12 yards out after brought down inside the area by Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in the 85th minute. Beckenbauer feels that Robben should never have been allowed to attempt to convert from the spot as it is always tricky to get up off the ground and take a penalty. "Robben would never have taken that penalty if I were the coach," he said. "There's an unwritten law in football that says the one who got fouled shouldn't take the penalty. "Maybe this rule was changed, or it hasn't reached Netherlands yet."
