Bundesliga officials have struck a new TV deal for German football that will earn clubs a shared total of 638 million euros a year.
The new contract represents a revenue increase for Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs of 53%, and is being hailed by League Association president Dr. Reinhard Rauball as "a great day for German football". The announcement was made following a meeting with the 36 member clubs of the League Association, and refers to a deal will come into effect from the beginning of the 2013/15 season and run through until the summer of 2017. The finer points of the newly-signed deal factor in carriage of matches on mobile phone and internet telephone channels, and helps to consolidate the Bundesliga's position as one of world football's most profitable competitions. "This is a good day for the Bundesliga, and for German football as a whole," said Rauball "Clubs, fans and our media partners all now have a framework with which to plan ahead for the next few years. This agreement lays the foundations for the ongoing successful development of the Bundesliga."
