Hamburg close in on Jiracek

Hamburg are poised to complete the signing of Petr Jiracek in a 4million euro deal from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg.

The Czech international only joined Wolfsburg in January but Jiracek has been informed by coach Felix Magath he is surplus to requirements in Lower Saxony. Hamburg lost their season opener to FC Nuremberg and are eager to bolster their options and coach Thorsten Fink is closing in on Jiracek, who will complete his move as soon as he has passed a medical. Jiracek may not signal the end of Hamburg's summer spending as the German side are still trying to complete a deal to re-sign midfielder Rafael van der Vaart from Spurs.
