Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has admitted defeat in his quest to sign Javi Martinez and Lars Bender.
The Bavarians have been looking to boost their midfield throughout the summer and have regularly linked with moves for Athletic Bilabo's Martinez and Bayer Leverkusen's Bender. However, Hoeness says he's now accepted that the two clubs are unwilling to part with their biggest assets and has called for an end to the speculation. "It does not make any sense to talk about these things," Hoeness said. "Fact is that we are unable to sign Bender and Martinez. That is why it does not serve any purpose to discuss them in public. "That is why contracts exist. The situation is pretty clear, we have asked about their availability and got an answer. We have to accept that. "I would be unhappy if people continued to question the contracts of our players," he added.
