Sammer to assess Martinez situation

Matthias Sammer says Bayern Munich may drop their pursuit of Javi Martinez following the player's recent comments.

The German giants have been tracking the Spaniard's progress for some time and looked set to go head-to-head with Barcelona in a race to seal his signature this summer. However, the versatile star recently pledged his immediate future to Athletic Bilbao and the Bavarians' sporting director Sammer admits they may end their interest in the 23-year-old. "We have not yet checked if Martinez's statements are true," he said. "We will look into it but if you look at the transfer fee maybe it would not be the right move."
