Boss to switch targets
Burnley, 22:40, July 20, 2010 ,
Burnley are preparing to drop their interest in Fraser Forster due to Newcastle's reluctance to loan him for the season at this time.
Clarets boss Brian Laws is a huge fan of the keeper after his impressive stint at Norwich last season, but may now switch his attention to Preston number one Andy Lonergan.
Burnley announced last week they had agreed to take Hexham-born Forster on a season-long loan, although the Magpies felt the Championship side had jumped the gun as they had failed to give them assurances about his role at Turf Moor.
Now an injury to Steve Harper appears to have given them cause to pull the plug on the proposed loan, at least for now.
!It's no secret that we are looking to bring in another goalkeeper and I think most people are aware Fraser Forster was our target," said Laws.
"However, unfortunately due to an injury at Newcastle, it's not possible to move that on at the moment.
"We understand Newcastle's predicament and they can't let Fraser leave until they have assessed that situation.
"We are waiting to see how that develops but clearly we may have to look at alternatives to strengthen our goalkeeping area with the new season less than three weeks away."
Harper was flexing his calf during Saturday's 3-0 friendly win at Carlisle United and was replaced at half-time by Tim Krul.
