Clarets close to double deal

Burnley, 15:17, June 18, 2010 ,

Burnley are close to signing Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp and have confirmed their interest in Cardiff's Peter Whittingham.

Sharp worked with current Burnley boss Brian Laws during his spell at Scunthorpe where he bagged 53 goals in 82 games, including a club record 32 in the 2006/07 season.
Laws is prepared to offered up to £1million for the striker, who has failed to replicate his goal scoring heroics at Bramall Lane following a £2million move three years ago.
Meanwhile, the Clarets have confirmed their interest in Cardiff winger Whittingham but denied making a bid.
Reports had suggested a £1.75million offer had been made to the Bluebirds for the winger, who hit 25 goals last season, but it is thought talks are not yet that advanced.
The Welsh club have slapped a £3million asking price on the former Aston Villa man but they may have to settle for less as Whittingham is entering the final year of his contract.
