Clarets in race for Meredith
Watford and Burnley are leading the chase for in-demand York defender James Meredith.
The 24-year-old Australian was a key performer for the Minstermen as they ended their eight-year exile from the Football League by triumphing in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final against Luton on Sunday. Meredith is out of contract at Bootham Crescent and looks set for a higher calling with the two npower Championship clubs leading the race for his services ahead of a host of other interested clubs. The left-back, who can also play in midfield, came through the ranks at Derby and has experienced league football at Chesterfield and Shrewsbury.
