Shackell wants Valiant effort

Burnley captain Jason Shackell insists his team-mates must hit the ground running to avoid an upset against Port Vale in the Capital One Cup.
The positioning of the competition's first round ahead of the npower Football League curtain-raiser this weekend has caught some of the Championship's leading lights cold. North-west neighbours Blackpool were dumped out by Morecambe, while Wolves and Hull needed penalty shoot-outs to overcome Aldershot and Rotherham respectively "It's a bit strange but there's some added importance in this - you want to go into the season on a good note so this is a massive game for us and we're not going to take it lightly," said Shackell, who will make his competitive debut for Burnley at Vale Park on Tuesday night. "It's a competitive game. We want to be in the next round of the cup, it's as simple as that. It's the start of our season. "You can see it's been difficult for a few of the so-called bigger teams. The lower league teams have made it very difficult so we need to go out, make sure we're physically right and prepare for a tough game."
