Striker bid failed
Burnley, 11:10, February 4, 2010 ,
It has been revealed that Burnley made a bid to land Derby striker Rob Hulse on loan before the closure of the transfer window.
The former Leeds man has been the subject of much speculation at Pride Park and almost joined Middlesbrough last summer for £4m but the deal fell through.
He was again expected to move during January and despite links to Newcastle, Ipswich and Boro again it was Burnley and Stoke who made real efforts to land the player.
The Clarets wanted to take Hulse on loan until the end of the campaign and pay a loan fee to Derby but the Rams turned down the offer and Hulse remains a Derby player and their boss Nigel Clough is delighted to have kept his man.
"Loans can still happen but Premier League clubs can not take any of our players and they were our main fear when it came to Rob," said Clough. "There were a few clubs sniffing round to loan him."
