Rams custodian ends Brewers stint

Burton Albion, 16:18, August 4, 2009

Goalkeeper Ross Atkins has returned to Derby County following a spell training with League Two new boys Burton Albion.

Rams boss Nigel Clough allowed the youngster to join his former club during the close-season and he featured in goal for the Brewers against Derby in last week's Bass Vase final, while also featuring for the second half of Albion's friendly at Altrincham on Saturday.

However Burton's veteran keeper Kevin Poole is close to a return to fitness following a persistent back injury, so Atkins is back at Pride Park.

"Ross did extremely well in his short time with us but we really don't have room for another keeper now that Kevin is on the mend," said Burton boss Paul Peschisolido.

"Kevin has improved a lot of late and I'm hopeful he could be involved in the first game of the season. Of course, we also have (Nottingham Forest loanee) Shane Redmond."
