Burton captain John McGrath has undergone a successful foot operation.
McGrath has had a screw inserted in a damaged joint and will spend several weeks wearing a protective cast. The 32-year-old midfielder requires a long period of recuperation and could miss the start of the 2012/13 season. "I've spoken to Macca and he tells me the operation was not quite as invasive as it might have been and was a success. But it's still quite a serious injury, with a long recovery period," said Albion caretaker manager Gary Rowett. "He's been told he must not put weight on the foot for at least eight weeks. Hopefully, though, the fact he has only had the joint pinned in one place increases his chances of coming back without a problem. "The good thing about Macca is his positive attitude. He's in good spirits and he's determined to get over the injury and play a big part next season." McGrath has not played since suffering the injury in the 2-0 defeat against Swindon at the County Ground on February 28.
