Shirtliff sees things to build on

Caretaker boss Peter Shirtliff felt there were plenty of positives to take from Bury's performance in the Capital One Cup defeat to Middlesbrough.
The npower Championship club triumphed 2-1 at Gigg Lane thanks to goals from Marvin Emnes and debutant Emanuel Ledesma. Mark Hughes' header from a Steve Schumacher corner halved Bury's deficit but they were unable to find an equaliser and had Efe Sodje sent off in injury time.
Shirtliff still enjoyed his audition for the full-time job and said: "I enjoyed it apart from the result. I'm quite comfortable in the role so there's no problems there. It's not difficult to plan ahead. I know the players here and I know the squad I've got.
"I'm happy with it at the moment and if I need to tinker with that I'll speak to the chairman and the board. At the moment I'm quite happy with things."
He added: "We were always in the game and we were disappointed to lose it. When you assess the game and the opposition we had, I think we performed creditably.
"Their first goal was a bit controversial, in terms of whether it was a free-kick or not, but we switched off a little bit. They took the quick free-kick and within seconds we were behind, so we need to learn from that. But there were plenty of positives and I think there were some great performances out there."
