Bothroyd eyes Magpies return

Cardiff City, 12:35, September 4, 2009

Dave Jones has confirmed that Jay Bothroyd could return from a muscle injury in time for Cardiff's game with Newcastle on September 13.

The Bluebirds hitman hobbled out of last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Doncaster with what looked like hamstring trouble but was later confirmed as a torn knee muscle. And, despite initial fears he could be on the sidelines for a lengthy spell, boss Jones insists Bothroyd could be back to face the Championship leaders on Sunday week.

"It's not too serious and we will nurse Jay through the next few days and see how he is early next week," he told the South Wales Echo.

"The signs are that he will be okay to play against Newcastle. We will wait and see how he progresses, but we hope he will be okay."
