Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has said he will be "forever grateful" for the opportunity Aidy Boothroyd gave him to begin his coaching career.

Mackay takes his side to Northampton to face Boothroyd's Cobblers in the Capital One Cup first round on Tuesday, and the Cardiff manager says he is eager to meet up with his former boss. The two men were together at Watford when Mackay launched his coaching career, before the Scot replaced his former mentor as manager in 2008. He told Wales Online: "I'm really looking forward to seeing Aidy again. "He played a big part in my transition from player to coach and I will be forever grateful. "Aidy gave me a chance to be part of his coaching staff and I learned so much from him."
