Peter Whittingham has stressed how much of an achievement a play-off place would be for Cardiff in the npower Championship this season.
The Bluebirds currently occupy sixth spot in the table, two points clear Middlesbrough in seventh, and could stretch that gap with victory over Derby on Tuesday.
After a massive overhaul of players in the summer, following the arrival of new manager Malky Mackay, midfielder Whittingham has insisted the Welsh outfit will have excelled to finish in the play-offs.
He told BBC Sport: "It would be nice just to sneak in there and win the whole thing, to be honest, instead of being in there the whole time. That's all we wanted, if it's in our own hands it's up to us.
"If it's that then it's a great achievement. Everyone probably would have taken that at the start of the season when you saw the gaffer coming in and ho many players left.
"We've got three games left now, they're tough games but we've only got ourselves to blame if we don't get there."
