Axe falls on Ward
Carlisle United, 11:02, November 3, 2008 ,
John Ward has parted company with Carlisle after the team's recent poor run, which has seen them lose ten of their last 11 games.
Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Stockport saw Carlisle, who made the League One play-offs last season, slip to 20th in the table and that appears to have been the final straw for the board.
Despite the fine job Ward has done at Brunton Park, Carlisle officials have been concerned by the recent form and the former York and Cheltenham boss will move on.
A statement on the club's website read: "The club thank John for his service over the last 13 months but, after suffering ten defeats and a draw in our last 11 games - a run which has seen us slide from second to 20th in the League One table - we agreed the time had come for us to go our separate ways.
"Assistant manager Greg Abbott has immediately been appointed caretaker manager with the full backing of everyone at the club.
"We would ask all Carlisle United fans to give their full backing to Greg and the squad, starting with Saturday's FA Cup first round tie at home to Grays Athletic."
