Celtic keen on in-demand Blades ace
Celtic, 13:18, December 22, 2009 ,
Celtic have joined Wigan and a host of other clubs in the race to sign Sheffield United's Mathew Kilgallon and are ready to offer £1m.
The Blades have made it clear they will not be selling Kilgallon on the cheap despite the fact that his contract is up in the summer and he can walk out for nothing then.
January could turn into a game of brinkmanship with clubs looking to land the central defender for the cheapest possible price but Celtic look to have upped the ante as they try and persuade him to move north of the border with a £1m offer.
United boss Kevin Blackwell said: "We can't reach an agreement with Matthew. We simply can't afford to pay the terms we used to. With the interest that has been shown it will be difficult to keep him.
"There is significant interest from a few Premier League clubs now as well as one or two in the Championship."
Latics boss Roberto Martinez has been linked with a bid for Kilgallon, while Hull, Burnley, Stoke and Newcastle have been credited with an interest.
