January strike move mooted

Celtic, 15:06, November 30, 2009

Wigan are understood to be lining up another move for Celtic striker Scott McDonald during January's transfer window.

The Premier League club made a late bid to sign the Australian before the summer window closed, but Tony Mowbray thwarted the move by saying that he wanted to take a lot at all of his squad before deciding on their futures.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is said to be prepared to pay £4million for the frontman, who has scored 12 goals so far this season, but will ask to take McDonald on loan first until the end of the season.

The striker, who cost Celtic £600,000 from Motherwell, did state in the summer that he was happy at Parkhead but may be tempted by the lure of the Premier League.
