Loovens can get better - Strachan

Celtic, 17:26, August 19, 2008

Gordon Strachan believes Celtic's new signing Glenn Loovens will continue to improve after unveiling him at Parkhead on Tuesday.

The Dutch defender has completed his £2.5million switch from Cardiff to the Hoops and is looking forward to trying to break into the first-team and featuring in the Champions League.

Bhoys boss Strachan is pleased with the signing of Loovens and is looking forward to improving him in the coming years.

He said: "It will be a good signing for us. It will add to our squad. We want to try and win everything we play for this year and to do that we have to have a good squad.

"Glenn is at a good age at 24, nearly 25, and his peak years are ahead of him. What we need to do now is prepare him for his peak and get him ready to play in the Champions League."

Loovens added: "Obviously I want to play. It's up to me to give the manager a problem.

"I spoke to a few people and they all had great stories about Celtic so I only expect the best now. In the beginning there was only Rangers, but in the end I decided that it was Celtic that I wanted to play for and that is who I want to focus on.

"It is a big step forward for me. I want to play for medals and play in the Champions League and it is a big step forward for me in my career."
