Adkins not giving up on Championship title
Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has refused to concede the Championship title, despite losing to Reading on Friday.
Saints are three points behind Brian McDermott's side, who have won 14 of their last 16 league matches to top the table with three games remaining in the season. Southampton are now looking over their shoulders at West Ham in third but the Saints boss is confident his side can achieve promotion to the top flight and wants to do it as Championship winners. He told BBC Radio Solent: "The objective is to win the division, alright Reading have gone three points ahead. "We've got a game on Tuesday as have Reading. Who knows what will happen after that?" Adkins' side travel to Peterborough this evening while Reading face Nottingham Forest.
