Huddersfield boss Simon Grayson was pleased to land long-term target Anthony Gerrard on a three-year contract.
The 26-year-old former Cardiff centre-back has made the move to the John Smith's Stadium in a deal reported to be worth £350,000.
Gerrard last appeared for the Bluebirds in their Carling Cup final defeat by Liverpool, when he missed the decisive penalty in the shoot-out.
"Anthony Gerrard is a player I have been aware of, I like him and it's great to get it done," said Grayson.
The former Walsall and Hull defender will battle it out with club captain Peter Clarke, fellow new signing Joel Lynch, Murray Wallace and Jamie McCombe for a first-team spot next term. Town beat off competition from Bristol City and Leicester to land him.
