Chris Hughton believes Birmingham were full value for their 2-0 victory over champions Reading at St Andrew's on Saturday.
Goals from Adam Rooney and Wade Elliott either side of a rare Ian Harte penalty miss handed the Blues a morale-boosting win ahead of their play-off date with Blackpool.
"Reading showed in periods why they are the champions, but I thought we were better," said Hughton.
"There are pivotal moments in a game and it was a super save from Colin, and that rejuvenated us. When you save a penalty it gives you a lift. It was a big save - Ian Harte wouldn't miss too many penalties."
The result ensured Birmingham finished fourth and head into the play-offs unbeaten in nine games. Hughton's side will travel to Bloomfield Road for the first leg on Friday, before entertaining Blackpool on May 9 for a place at Wembley.
