Burnley have announced that striker Danny Ings is to visit a specialist in an effort to determine the severity of his knee injury.

The 20-year-old suffered the injury during his side's last pre-season friendly against Rochdale on Tuesday and, despite undergoing initial medical checks, the full extent of the problem remains unclear. Ings has endured wretched luck with injuries since joining Burnley last summer, after boss Eddie Howe returned to his former employers Bournemouth to snap up the youngster and tipped him to make a big impact at Turf Moor. A cruciate ligament injury laid him low in 2011 and now with this latest injury looks set for another spell on the sidelines. "The striker has had an initial scan on the injury which forced him to come off during the second half of the game at Spotland on Tuesday night," read a statement released on the club's official website.
