Malky Mackay hopes Cardiff City fans are in full support of the team ahead of this evening's Championship opener with Huddersfield.

The Bluebirds will emerge from the tunnel at Cardiff City Stadium in a red home kit for the first time following the change made by the club's new Malaysian owners, but Mackay wants the fans to ignore rumours of a protest surrounding the re-branding and get behind the team. "I have no doubt if there are 30, 40 people outside with banners, they will get coverage," he said. "It's their right. I just hope it doesn't detract from people supporting their team." The Scot added: "There's the re-branding of the club and there is getting behind the team, those are two separate issues. "But the colour of the strip and the badge, for me personally, doesn't equate with us having to be promoted." Mackay has a fully-fit squad to choose from going into the first match of the season while Huddersfield, making their Championship debut, have just one injury concern with winger Danny Ward a doubt after an ankle knock in the midweek League Cup defeat at Preston.
